Italia meets New Zealand

A while ago I got a request of Silvano Braido to exchange a small work, something like a drawing. For some inimitable reason I'm always grabbing the large canvasses and hardly create small drawings these days. The only serious small work I owned was Wildervangsterdallen. It was a personal favorite of me, made with acrylic and ink and it was ever used as illustration for a song.
So, the choice for Silvano was quite limited, but luckily he was still willing to do the exchange.
Today I received his part in my letterbox and I was over the moon. Beside a beautiful bright tempera work, he also added a book brimmed full of other small paintings of weird animals in marvellous colors.

Visit the site of Silvano Braido, you will be surprised!

TooHoT in stores

TooHoT is about to hit the shelves! My award winning entry for the PAL design contest will be appearing in stores around the globe soon. We have made them in the 3 primary colors; yellow, red and blue, don't they look awesome?

Next year the PAL design contest has a Finnish edition endorsed by their national design organization. I'm not sure if it's open for international entries since I can't understand a word of the flyer. Feel free to drop them an email if you are interested in entering.

Wildervangsterdallen

One of my drawings was recently featured in a Dutch book/CD called 'Dromen door Nederland '. It's a wonderful A-Z book written by Henry Muldrow and each letter is accompanied by an illustration and a short song, all created by a different artists. The theme throughout the book is weird names of towns and mine was Wildervangsterdallen, which is pretty much untranslatable. The rime is about ping pong....

Exquisite corpse: One dollar

This is the second part of my excorps project with Peter van Oostzanen. In the creation of this drawing we followed the same procedure as the first one, only this time the roles have been reversed. I started with the left halve, masked off most of it and next Peter finished the other halve.

this is the part I created

And this was the only part visible for Peter

And this became the final result (click for large)

Hu Rakau Maori

Our friend Gina invited us over for a traditional reception at her marae (a Maori meeting house). Because it's a sacred place, entering the marae has to be done following strict protocols. Luckilly Gina was with us to explain them and tell us all about the history of the building and her tribe. After the formal part there was singing, dancing and lots of food, we had a fabulous evening!
For this special occasion I created a pair of Maori wooden shoes (hu rakau) as a koha (gift).
More of my artzy clogs can be found in here.

Exquisite corpse: Morning before the bbq

An excorps is a drawing created by 2 artists, in this case Peter van Oostzanen and me. Peter first drew half a paper (on the right side) and covered most of it before sending it to me. Working from the small visible part of his drawing, it was up to me to fill the other half. After completion, the best part of course is the revelation of the hidden section.

This was the visible part I got ...

... and this was what I added.

This was the hidden section .....
